Coaching Requirements
The following is an overview of the requirements from USA Hockey that all coaches must abide by. Any coach, head or assistant, who is going to be on the bench must complete these items.
USA Hockey Registration
Register as a member of USA Hockey. Must be done yearly, cost is $56 for Coaches. Make sure you indicate your coaching in the State of Iowa (Midwest Amateur Hockey Association).
Background Screening
Complete the required background screening. Good for two seasons. Cost is $30.
SafeSport Training
Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training. Refresher required every year and cannot be added to a roster until completed. Your SafeSport Certificate has an expiration date and is only good for one year from date taken. Check your expiration date. New Coaches need to complete the Core module.
Age Specific Modules
Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. Modules have been consolidated. The new module classifications are 8&Under, 12&Under, and 13&Over. Cost is $20 per classification. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed.
Coaching Education Program (CEP)
Find, register and attend (virtually or in person) the required certification clinic. Cost is around $55. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. The CEP Certification Clinic requirements must be completed by December 31, 2024.
